In September of 2020, much of California was on fire. The oil painting is of Lake Merritt, in Oakland. Three large buildings stand out against the red sky as a red sun in the west colors the smoke.

The curved building is Kaiser Center, the second is an apartment building, and the square building with the lighted front is the Shriners Temple.

The buildings are reflected in the lake below. At the center bottom is a person in black, trying to jog in the terrible conditions.
