12x12x1 in ~ Painting, Oil, Ink
Cedar Mesa, Navajo Reservation, New Mexico.
Palette knife and glaze, ink pen. The surface of the painting is textured, showing something of the structure of the buildings, brick and plaster.
Cedar Mesa is on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, not usually open to visitors. The colors of the setting sun reflect from the roof of the protective cave. The small opening center right, low, is not a door, but the communal oven. The roof of the center right building has collapsed, leaving rubble on the floor.
Ruins exist all over the American Southwest, and Cedar Mesa is among the most remarkable.
